My Kuvasz Memories

Several years ago, I began my Kuvasz journey after buying my first house as a single woman. At the suggestion of a friend, I decided to get a companion and guard dog. My search led me to Bailey, a Kuvasz puppy from a new breeder in Michigan. As a novice owner, I made some mistakes, especially with socialization. Bailey became so protective of me that I couldn’t allow guests into my home.

To help her, I hired a trainer who worked with her at a dedicated facility. Her breeder also encouraged me to try showing her in conformation competitions. With the assistance of a handler, Bailey earned her CKC and AKC championships, highlighted by a Sweepstakes win and Reserve Winners Bitch at the inaugural Kuvasz Club of America National Specialty.

My other memorial experiences are related to CH Galaxy’s Dancer in the Moonlight.  She was number 1 Kuvasz in the USA for a couple of years.  In addition, she had Best of Breed wins at Westminster Kennel Club, AKC Classic, and two Kuvasz Club of Canada Best in Specialty Show.

Since then, I’ve welcomed many Kuvasz into my life from a variety of bloodlines and backgrounds. While related Kuvasz may have physical similarities, each one has brought its own personality and unique traits to the family.

My Mission

My purpose is to create exceptional Kuvasz by combining rare bloodlines and focusing on the “four-legged stool” of Type, Structure, Health, and Function. Each aspect is equally weighted, ensuring dogs with the temperament, strength, and health to thrive as LGDs, Service Dogs, Show Dogs, Performance Dogs, or Companions.

Over the past 30 years, I’ve visited kennels in the USA, Canada, and Hungary, building a deep understanding of bloodlines. I’ve compiled a pedigree database of AKC-registered Kuvasz in the USA to inform my breeding practices. I prioritize the breed’s future over market demand and avoid partnerships with breeders who don’t align with my principles.

During a seminar in Hungary, I learned of declining breeder numbers and high inbreeding, which threaten Kuvasz worldwide. I’m committed to addressing these challenges by educating the public at dog shows and events, encouraging others to join the effort to conserve this extraordinary breed.
